New York Mills High School senior Cydnie Polman signed her Letter of Intent to play volleyball for Mayville State University last week.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Polman was able to visit the North Dakota college earlier this year and participate in volleyball practice, which helped her decide to sign her Letter of Intent.

“I liked the small school and how close everyone was. I liked the team and how welcoming they were with me when I went to visit and practice with the team, they were very supportive,” said Polman.

She is the daughter of Gloria and DJ Polman and has been playing volleyball since seventh grade. Back then though, Polmane hoped to play basketball at the college level. As a sophomore, Polman went to state with the Eagles volleyball team and her love for the sport grew.

“I love the excitement when the team gets a point or when you win the point on a long rally,” said Polman, on why she prefers volleyball over basketball. “I loved how close our volleyball team was.

Polman plans to enroll in the Allied Health program with the hope of pursuing a career in Physical Therapy.

“Thanks to all the people for helping me, like my teammates, coach and parents,” said Polman. “They pushed me along the way and helped me. My teammates are always supportive. Even this year with everything being taken away. I’m going to miss them and hopefully I will come back next year to watch games.”
