NYM to host WDC Friday in conference action

The girls basketball team secured a pair of lopsided wins in the Park Region Conference last week, and in the process, improved to 2-2 overall and 2-1 in conference action. The Eagles outscored Bertha-Hewitt and Verndale by a score of 145-41 on the road as they get ready to host the win less Sebeka Trojans on Thursday. The Trojans come into the game with a record of 0-4 overall.

On Friday the Eagles will travel to the 3-0 Browerville Tigers in non-conference action. The game will be part of a five game road trip that takes the team through Feb. 19 when NY Mills will host Bertha-Hewitt.

Jan. 14

In a game that was much closer than the final score, NY Mills played point-for-point with the defending section champions and second ranked Henning Hornets in its regular season opener on Jan. 14. Ultimately, the Eagles fell by a score of 65-54, but not before taking the Hornets down to the wire.

After trailing 36-26 at halftime, the Eagles were outscored just 29-28 in the second half as both teams traded shots throughout the final 18 minutes of action.

Moriah Geiser had a big game for the Eagles as she scored 10 of her team-high 18 points in the second half. Bella Bauck hit three 3-pointers on her way to 15 points and Megan Reidel joined the pair in double figures with 10 points of her own. Kali Olson chipped in with 6 points, Mackenzie Gilster scored 3 points and Cydnie Polman chipped in with 2 points. 

Jan. 16

NY Mills traveled to Underwood on Jan. 16 to take on the Rockets in non-conference action. In a defensive struggle from the onset, the Eagles fell to the Rockets by a score of 47-38. 

Trailing 25-21 at halftime, the Eagles were able to hold Underwood to just four field goals in the second half, but the Rockets made eight free throws to keep NY Mills at bay. 

Megan Reidel led the way for the Eagles as she scored 12 points, while Bella Bauck chipped in with 8 of her own. Cydnie Polman scored 7 points, while Megan Reidel scored 6, Moriah Geiser 3 and Ayla Olson 2. 

Tuesday

NY Mills held Bertha-Hewitt to just one field goal and 5 second half points as the Eagles defeated the Bears by a score of 67-17 on Tuesday night. 

The Eagles jumped out to a 40-12 lead at halftime thanks to 14 first half points by Bella Bauck and 6 first half points by Moriah Geiser. Both Eagles reached double figures in the win as 11 players were able to get some extended playing time.

Bauck led the way with 17 points, while Geiser chipped in with 16 points. Kali Olson scored 8 points; while Cydnie Polman chipped in with 7; Megan Riedel, Ayla Olson and Anna Meech each scored 6; and Kailey Keskitalo rounded out the scoring with 1 point.

Friday

Ten Eagles reached the scoring column as NY Mills had its best offensive game of the season on Friday by scoring 78 points in a 78-24 win over Verndale.

NY Mills jumped out to a 44-13 lead at halftime and hit five 3-pointers to improve to 2-2 overall and 2-1 in the Park Region Conference. 

Kali Olson led the way offensively with 16 points, while Ayla Olson had a big game from the field with 15 points, Bella Bauck also reached double figures with three 3-pointers and 13 points. Megan Reidel was the fourth member of the team to reach double figures with 10 points of her own.

Cydnie Polman came just short of joining the four NY Mills players in double figures with 9 points, Mackenzie Gilster scored 4, Kailey Keskitalo scored 4, Anna Meech finished with 3 points and Moriah Geiser rounded out the scoring with 2 points.
