With just one week remaining in the regular season, the New York Mills wrestlers picked up three more wins to improve to 12-8 on the season. The Eagles swept a triangular against Fertile-Beltrami and Park Rapids Area on Tuesday night, before splitting a triangular against Otter Tail Central and Staples-Motley on Thursday.

Tuesday

NY Mills swept a triangular in Park Rapids on Tuesday night with commanding wins over Park Rapids Area and Fertile-Beltrami.

In its match against the Panthers, the Eagles won the final eight matches of the night to blow past Park Rapids Area by a score of 53-15. Nick Peterson got the Eagles on the scoreboard at 120 lbs. when he won a 13-0 major decision. Chris Yoder followed with a pin at 126 lbs. to make the score 12-10 in favor of Park Rapids. 

After a decision by Park Rapids at 132 lbs. it was all NY Mills as Jacob Guck won by fall in just 15 seconds at 138 lbs., Dane Niemi followed with an 11-0 major decision and three straight Panther forfeits essentially put the match out of reach. 

Jon Rinerson won the final match of the night with a 7-6 decision over Tristian Hill at 195 lbs. Park Rapids Area forfeited the final two matches. 

It was more of the same in NY Mills’ second match of the night as seven Fertile-Beltrami forfeits helped the Eagles come away with a 75-4 win. Fertile-Beltrami secured just one win in the match, while just two matches went the distance.

Austin Geiser picked up the first win for the Eagles as he won a 6-5 decision at 106 lbs. Following a forfeit by Fertile-Beltrami, Peters secured a pin at the 1:14 mark of his 120 lbs. match. Guck won the next match wrestled at 138 lbs. by a first period fall and a pair of Fertile-Beltrami forfeits ensued.

NY Mills put an exclamation point on the win by winning the final three matches of the contest by pin with Cody Barthel, Bode Roberts and Braeden Peterson all winning by pin to end the match.

Thursday

NY Mills split a home triangular against Otter Tail Central and Staples-Motley on Thursday night. The Eagles kicked off the night with a 58-16 win over the Bulldogs, before falling to Staples-Motley by a score of 37-31 in the final match of the night. 

In its opening match of the night, the Eagles won the opening seven matches of the night on their way to a 58-16 win. Austin Geiser, Elijah Geiser, Nick Peters and Chris Yoder got things going with four straight pins, before Jay Winefret won by forfeit. Dane Niemi followed with a 5-1 decision, before Jacob Guck won NY Mills’ seventh straight match by a fall at the 3:00 mark. 

After an OTC major decision and pin at 152 and 160 lbs., Bren Salo secured a forfeit and Blake Unger won by a 4-3 decision to put the Eagles win front by a 48-12 score. Following a Tristan Evavold fall for OTC at 195 lbs., Bode Roberts and Braeden Peterson followed with a major decision and fall at 220 lbs. and heavyweight to give the Eagles the 58-16 win. 

Results for the Staples-Motley match were not available at the time of press.
