A leaky roof at the Cultural Center presented a unique opportunity for people to watch some heavy machinery at work. The Cultural Center had planned to repair the roof as part of an expansive capital campaign, but COVID-19 delayed that effort a bit.

The Cultural Center in New York Mills recently had its roof repaired after a leak was found at the facility.

“Starting in 2019 we started looking really seriously for a capital campaign for the building, with the roof being one of those projects that needed to be done,” said Betsy Roder of the Cultural Center, the retreat house and sculpture park.

Though COVID-19 put the expansive capital campaign on hold a bit, the needs of the roof were something the Cultural Center couldn’t ignore. The roof continued to leak, and Cultural Center representatives decided that the roof could no longer wait and needed to be repaired.

The Cultural Center recently received a grant for about 1/3 of the $24,000-25,000 cost to repair the roof with the remainder being funded locally.

Roder thanked all of the suporters and members of the Cultural Center through the years and said without their support, even during the COVID-19 pandemic, the improvements and programs at the important NY Mills attraction would not be possible.

“It’s also because of our supporters have been so generous,” said Roder.
