New York Mills put an exclamation point on a busy day of baseball on Friday. With NY Mills hosting the 13u state baseball tournament, the Millers game against Midway didn’t get going until the sun was going down, but NY Mills didn’t need any extra jolt to get going as they defeated the Snurdbirds by a score of 7-1.

After holding Midway scoreless in the top of the first inning, Derin Gaudette put the Millers on the board in the bottom half of the inning when he hit an RBI single to left field to bring Logan Small across the plate. After back-to-back strikeouts, Austin Maneval hit a 2-run double to bring Caden Roberts and Gaudette across the plate to make the score 3-0.

The Millers struck again in the bottom of the third inning, when Bren Salo scored when the Midway catcher was called for catcher’s interference when he got in the way of Dustin Gaudette’s swing.

Dustin Gaudette made the game 6-0 when he hit a triple to bring Breck Hensch and Salo around to score in the bottom of the fifth inning. He would score one batter later when Small hit a fielder’s choice to the third baseman.

The lone Midway run came in the top of the sixth inning when the Snurdbirds hit a fielder’s choice to the third baseman to bring one run around to score.

The Millers were able to out hit the Snurdbirds by an 11-3 margin. Maneval led the way offensively with 3 hits, while Roberts, Salo and Dustin Gaudette all finished with a pair of hits. Dustin Gaudette led the team with 3 RBIs.

Maneval picked up the win on the mound as he went all 9 innings and gave up just 3 hits and 1 unearned run, while striking out 10 hitters.

In addition to their 7-1 win over Midway, the Millers defeated the Sebeka Stingers by a score of 11-2 on Saturday. Caden Roberts pitched a complete game to help the team improve to 9-1 in league play as they currently trail just Bluffton in the league standings.

NY Mills has just two games left on their schedule, a Friday game in Deer Creek and a Saturday game against Perham in NY Mills. Saturday’s game will get underway at 7:30 p.m.
