The New York Mills Eagles took second place at the Browerville Tournament on Saturday. The team went 2-2 and fell to Browerville in the championship game.

The New York Mills Eagles opened their season with a pair of wins and a second place finish at the Browerville Tournament on Saturday. The Eagles are currently 4-2 on the season and will travel to Lake Park-Audubon on Monday, before hosting Sebeka on Thursday night in their home opener. 

Aug. 31

With the stands filled for the first time in nearly two years, the NY Mills Eagles defeated Frazee in non-conference action on Aug. 31. The Eagles cruised to a 3-0 win (25-16, 25-11, 25-20) in their only game prior to the start of school.

NY Mills was led offensively by Kali Olson and Ayla Olson who had big nights at the net as they finished with 11 and 10 kills respectively. Mairyn Erp finished with 5 kills, while Moriah Geiser and Natalie Pederson finished with 4. Ayla Olson led the way with 15 assists and tied Geiser for the lead in digs with 7 apiece. 

Bella Bauck led the Eagles with 3 ace serves. As a team the Eagles finished with 11 aces on the night.

Thursday

NY Mills came away with a thrilling five game win over Verndale on Thursday night. The game was the Eagles’ first Park Region Conference game of the season. 

NY Mills dropped the first game by a score of 25-21 before coming away with a 25-18 win in the second game.

After the Pirates were able to squeak out a 28-26 win in the third game, the Eagles had their backs against the wall, before coming away with a 25-16 and 15-12 win to secure the 3-2 victory over the Pirates.

Kali Olson and Moriah Geiser led the charge offensively as they finished with 16 and 11 kills, while Ayla Olson led the team with 23 assists. Geiser also finished with a team high 26 digs, while Aliya Gerber finished with 21 digs of her own.

Saturday

NY Mills took second place at the annual Browerville Tournament on Saturday. The Eagles opened pool play with a 2-1 record after falling to Brandon-Evansville 25-16, 21-25, 9-15 and defeating Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley 25-12, 25-23 and Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 25-12, 25-16. 

In the championship game, the Eagles fell to Browerville by a score of 25-22 and 26-24 to finish in second place. 

Six Eagles finished the tournament with at least 9 kills with Kali Olson leading the way with 23, while Moriah Geiser finished with 15, Ayla Olson 14, Megan Reidel 11, Natalie Pederson 9 and Mairyn Erp 9. 

Aliya Gerber led the team with 25 digs, while Bella Bauck finished with 24 and Kali Olson 21.
