NYM improves to 12-4 overall with five wins last week

New York Mills improved to 4-0 in the Park Region Conference and 12-4 overall with a 5-1 record last week. 

The Eagles opened the week with a 3-0 win over Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal, before securing a 3-0 win over Menahga in conference action on Thursday. 

In other action, the Eagles competed in the Barnesville Tournament on Saturday. NY Mills went 3-1 in the tournament, which included wins over Fertile Beltrami 25-21, 25-21; Win-E-Mac 25-10, 25-9 and Battle Lake 25-12, 25-22. Their lone loss in the tournament came to Breckenridge by a score of 25-18, 25-18.

One of the highlights of the tournament was senior Aliya Gerber who recorded her 1,000th career assist.

This week the Eagles hosted Pelican Rapids in non-conference action on Monday, before hosting Wadena-Deer Creek in Park Region Conference action on Thursday. 

The Eagles are currently 12-4 overall and tied with Henning atop the conference standings with a perfect 4-0 record. 

Monday

NY Mills swept Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal 3-0 in non-conference action on Monday night.

The Eagles won the first set 25-19, before edging the Titans in a back and forth second game by a score of 26-24. In the third game, the Eagles defeated the Titans in another close game by a score of 25-22. 

Kali Olson and Ayla Olson led the way offensively with 12 and 10 kills respectively, as well as assists where they each had 17 in the win. Aliya Gerber led the way with 18 digs, Moriah Geiser also hit double digits with 13 digs, while Ayla and Kali Olson each had 11 digs. Geiser also finished the game with 7 kills and Megan Riedel chipped in with 5.

Thursday

NY Mills improved to 4-0 in the conference with a 3-0 win over Menahga on Thursday night.

The Eagles grabbed ahold of the match in the first game with a 25-22 win, before once again winning a back and forth second game by a score of 27-25. It was more of the same between the two PRC foes in the third game, but ultimately NY Mills was able to pull out a 25-20 win to secure their fourth straight conference win of the season. 

Natalie Pederson led a balanced offensive attack on Thursday as she had 7 kills, while Moriah Geiser finished with 5 and Ayla Olson chipped in with 4. 

The Eagles gave the Braves trouble at the service line all night long as the team combined for 16 ace serves. Aliya Gerber picked up 6 of those ace serves as she was 19-20 from the line. Ayla Olson and Bella Bauck each picked up 3 ace serves in the win. Gerber also finished with a team high 16 digs, while Bauck finished with 13.
