Sheriff deputies reported that one person was injured Sept. 23 in a roadway accident at the intersection of Highways 14 and 67, south of New York Mills.

Injured at 4:18 p.m. was 19-year-old Preston Newborg of New York Mills.

Deputies said Newborg’s vehicle struck a large work truck. He was taken to the hospital in Perham, with non-life-threatening injuries.

Theft reported

Skid steer attachments were stolen from a location on Black Diamond Road, east of Vergas and northwest of Perham. The call came into the sheriff’s office on Sept. 22.

Close to $6,000 in skid-steer attachments, near a cellphone tower, were taken. Stolen items included a grapple, pallet fork and tiller.

Sheriff deputies, on Sept. 24, arrested a person for criminal vehicular operation following a traffic incident in New York Mills.

A driver was westbound on Gilman Street and struck a parked car, in turn pushing the car into another parked car. The vehicle, at close to 4:45 a.m., then ran over the curb and came to a stop.

A passenger was extricated by first responders from New York Mills. The individual was taken to the hospital in Wadena.

The driver admitted to drinking and was arrested. The defendant was taken to the detention center in Fergus Falls and was later scheduled to appear in county court.

Kayaks stolen

Two 10-foot Pelican brand kayaks were reported stolen on Sept. 24 from a location at Timber Hills Road, Round Lake, north of Battle Lake.

One kayak was red and white and the other was green and white. They were valued at $250 each. 

The theft likely took place sometime in the two weeks prior to Sept. 24.

Trolling Motor Stolen

Sheriff deputies, on Sept.  2, reported the theft of a trolling motor at Engstrom Beach Road, Big McDonald Lake, northwest of Dent.

Also taken was a battery, gas tank and line. The value of all items was approximately $270.

The owner planned to find the serial number for the trolling motor.

Members of the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office were among the first responders dispatched to structure fires on the west side of Fergus Falls, near Interstate 94.

The calls came in just past midnight on Sept. 29.

An outbuilding and small shed caught fire from a nearby burn pile. The affected structures were a total loss. There were no injuries.
