New York Mills nearly posted its fourth shut out in six games as the Eagles defeated Parkers Prairie by a score of 35-6 on Friday night. The Eagles led 35-0 heading into the fourth quarter, before the Panthers scored a late touchdown on a 51-yard run.
Throughout the game NY Mills was able to control the tempo of the game on the ground as they rushed for 339 yards and five touchdowns.
“We played very well on defense and offense once again,” said Radniecki. “I am very proud of how our line is working on both sides of the ball. We ran the ball for 339 yards, which is extremely good. Dane and the backs had another gear it seemed like on Friday night.”
Dane Niemi put the Eagles on the scoreboard in the first quarter when he scored on a 21-yard run. Bren Salo found Niemi for the two-point conversion to make the score 8-0 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Salo scored on a 1-yard run and Niemi found the end zone for the second time on a 2-yard run to make the score 21-0 heading into halftime.
Niemi scored his third touchdown of the game in the third quarter when he scored on a 4-yard run and Jonah Ruther made the scored on a 4-yard run to make the game 33-0. Salo was able to find Noah Noffsinger on the two-point conversion to make the score 35-0.
The Panthers scored a late touchdown to make the final score 35-6 in favor of NY Mills.
As the team prepares for their final regular season game on Wednesday night, Radniecki said the Eagles will need to clean up the penalties as they welcome in the eighth ranked team in the state.
“One thing we need to clean up is our penalties as we had 10 called and that will really hurt us in a close game,” he said.
Polk County West comes into the game with a record of 5-1 overall and are ranked eighth in the state polls. The team is averaging 36 points per game on offense and is giving up just 10 points per game on defense. Leading their high powered offense is a running back for Polk County West that is averaging 12 yards a carry. Their lone loss was a 12-7 loss to Ada Borup-West on October 1.
The Eagles come into the game as the third ranked team in the QRF and a perfect 6-0 record. The Eagles are averaging 34.8 points per game on offense and are giving up the second lowest points per game in Class A on defense at just 5 points per game.
Wednesday’s kick off will begin at 6 p.m. in NY Mills. Radniecki said the Eagles are excite for the upcoming weeks, as well as senior and parent’s night this week.
“This will be a huge challenge for us on senior night and parent’s night,” he said. “We are excited for the upcoming weeks as we head to the our last regular season game and playoffs.”
The Section 6A tournament will kick off on Tuesday, Oct. 26 at the high seed and continue on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 2 p.m. The section finals will be on Friday, Nov. 5 at the FargoDome. The section championship game will get underway at 5:30 p.m.
NY Mills is currently one of two undefeated teams in the section as OTC is 7-0 and the Eagles are 6-0. Pine River-Backus is 6-1, while Breckenridge is 4-3, Underwood is 3-4, Menahga is 3-4, Lake Park-Audubon is 2-5 and Walker-Hackensack-Akeley is 0-6.
