The Perham Yellowjackets brought home nine individual medals at the Section 8A swim meet from Nov. 12-13 in Detroit Lakes. At the end of the meet, the swimmers set 33 personal records and had a number of people competing in the finals.

Brittney Lorentz, Avery McAllister and Taylor Ziemke qualified for the state swim meet. 

Ziemke qualified for in the 100 freestyle after finishing in second place in the 100 freestyle and the 50 freestyle, while Lorentz and McAllister took first and second place in the diving competition. Lorentz was named as the Section 8A diver of the year, while the swim team received the academic Gold Award.

Highlights from the section meet include the medley relay team of Elle McDonald, Irene Mursu, Lucy Schultz and Taylor Ziemke took third place, while less than a second separated first and third place. 

In the 200 individual medley, Irene Mursu took fourth place, while Maggie Vickmark took ninth and Elle McDonald took 13th place.

Ziemke set another middle school record as she captured first place in the 50 freestyle. She broke her record from the previous day by .33 seconds. She also took second place in the 100 freestyle. 

In the 100 backstroke, Irene Mursu took fourth place, while McDonald took 14th place and Lucie Meyer took 16th place.

The 400 freestyle relay team of Irene Mursu, Lucy Schultz, Molly Meyer and Taylor Ziemke took third place. 

As a team, the Yellowjackets finished in fourth place with 256 points out of eight teams.
