New York Mills to travel to Menahga

The New York Mills girls basketball team opened their season with four wins in five games, including a 1-1 record in the Park Region Conference. 

The Eagles will travel to Menahga on Thursday night in their only game this week, before hosting Parkers Prairie next Tuesday in a non-conference match up.

Nov. 30

NY Mills opened its season on Nov. 30 with a 51-38 win over Park Christian. The Eagles took a 29-15 lead at halftime, thanks to a strong first half performance by Bella Bauck who scored 13 of her game high 23 points in the opening half. Ayla Olson also had a big first half as she scored all 9 of her points in the opening half of action. 

Megan Riedel scored 8 points, while Alayna Baune scored 6 and Kailey Keskitalo chipped in with 5.

Dec. 2

The Eagles improved to 2-0 with a 60-43 win over Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal on Dec. 2. The Eagles once again built on their strong first half to outscore the Titans by a 30-15 margin in the second half. 

Three Eagles reached double figures in the win with Bella Bauck once again leading the way with 18 points, while Alayna Baune scored 14 and Megan Riedel scored 12. Olson had a big game from the free throw line as she scored 8 of her 12 points from the charity stripe.

Moriah Geiser scored 6 points, while Alayna Baune and Mackenzie Gilster each scored 4. Annika Dunrud rounded out the scoring with 2 points. 

Tuesday

NY Mills opened its Park Region Conference season with a 44-33 win over Sebeka on Tuesday night. The Eagles led just 18-12 at halftime, but both teams picked up the tempo in the second half as NY Mills held on for a win in their conference opener.

Ayla Olson led the Eagles with 15 points in the paint, while Bella Bauck also reached double figures with 10 points of her own. Alayna Baune scored 9 points, while Megan Riedel scored 7 points, Moriah Geiser scored 2 points and Kailey Keskitalo rounded out the scoring with 1 point.

Friday

NY Mills had its three game winning streak snapped at the hands of Wadena-Deer Creek on Friday night. The Wolverines hit seven 3-pointers to help give them the edge over NY Mills.

Bella Bauck hit four 3-pointers of her own to lead the Eagles in scoring with 22 points, while Ayla Olson scored 8 points. Megan Riedel scored 5 points, Kailey Keskitalo scored 3 and Moriah Geiser chipped in with 2.

Saturday

Just a matter of hours after falling the Wadena-Deer Creek on Friday night, the Eagles rebounded in a big way to defeat Mahnomen/Waubun in non-conference action on Saturday by a score of 55-31.

After leading just 17-12 at halftime, the Eagles found their offensive groove on Saturday as they outscored the Thunderbirds by a 38-19 margin in the second half.

Bella Bauck had a big second half as she hit three 3-pointers to pace the Eagles with 18 points, while Ayla Olson scored 11 points. 

Moriah Geiser just missed joining them in double digits as she finished with 8 points, Alayna Baune scored 7, Mackenzie Gilster hit a pair of 3-pointers to finish with 6 points, Kailey Keskitalo scored 4 points and Megan Riedel scored 1.
