New York Mills improved to 10-8 on the season and 5-5 in the Park Region Conference after splitting a pair of conference games last week.

The Eagles opened the week by avenging an earlier loss this season to Wadena-Deer Creek by a score of 45-39, before giving the Menahga Braves one of their tightest games of the season by falling 54-46. 

This week the Eagles have just one game on their schedule as they will travel to Pillager on Friday night for another PRC game. 

Jan. 18

NY Mills’ defense held Verndale to just 33 points in the game as the Eagles defeated the Pirates 45-33 on Jan. 18. The Eagles led by a score of 26-15 in the first half thanks to three 3-pointers by Maya Radniecki and another one from Bella Bauck as NY Mills found quite a bit of success from behind the 3-point line.

The Eagles continued to utilize a balanced scoring attack in the second half as seven NY Mills players scored at least 4 points in the win.

Alayna Baune led the team offensively as the post player scored 10 points, while Radniecki scored 9, Ayla Olson scored 7, Bauck scored 6, Kailey Keskitalo scored 5 and Moriah Geiser and Megan Riedel rounded out the scoring with 4 points apiece.

Jan. 21

NY Mills had its best offensive game of the season on Jan.21 as the Eagles put up a season high 67 points as they defeated the Sebeka Trojans by a score of 67-42. After a close first half in which the Eagles led by a score of 29-20, NY Mills was able to pick up the tempo and put some space in-between them and the Trojans in the final 18 minutes of action. The Eagles hit three 3-pointers in the second half and had one of their best nights from the free throw line of the season as they went 13-17 from the charity stripe.

Nine Eagles reached the scoring column and they were led by Ayla Olson who scored a game high 22 points. Bella Bauck chipped in with 14 points and Megan Riedel also reached double figures with 12 points. 

Alayna Baune scored 8 points of her own, while Annika Dunrud and Maya Radniecki each hit a 3-pointer to finish with 3 points, Moriah Geiser and Abby Riedel each scored 2 points and Mackenzie Gilster rounded out the scoring with 1 point.

Jan. 22

Taking on one of the top teams in the state and the leaders in Section 6A, NY Mills fell to Hancock by a score of 70-36 on Jan. 22. The Owls were hitting on all cylinders in the first half as they hit seven 3-pointers in the opening 18 minutes of action as they took a 50-17 lead at halftime. 

The Eagles were able to hang with the Owls a bit in the second half, but were unable to erase that early deficit on the road.

Bella Bauck led the way offensively for the Eagles as she scored 15 points, 12 of which came in the second half. Ayla Olson scored 8 points, Megan Riedel scored 6, Moriah Geiser scored 3 and Mackenzie Gilster and Kailey Keskitalo rounded out the scoring with 2 points apiece. 

Thursday

NY Mills avenged a 45-40 loss to Wadena-Deer Creek from earlier this season by defeating the Wolverines by a score of 45-39 on Thursday night. 

Trailing by a score of 25-14 at halftime, the Eagles found their offensive rhythm in the second half as they held WDC to just 14 points, while scoring 31 points of their own.

Bella Bauck and Ayla Olson led the charge for the Eagles as they each scored 8 of their team high 11 points in the second half. Alayna Baune and Megan Riedel chipped in with 7 points apiece, while Moriah Geiser scored 5 points, Annika Dunrud scored 3 points and Kailey Keskitalo rounded out the scoring with 1 point.

Friday

A strong second half once again helped the NY Mills Eagles overcome a double digit deficit at halftime. Unfortunately, this time around, the Eagles weren’t able to erase all of their 25-15 halftime deficit to Menahga as they fell by a score of 54-46 on Friday night. The Eagles outscored a powerful Braves offense 31-29 in the second half, thanks to a strong game down low by the NY Mills post players.

Ayla Olson scored a game high 20 points, 12 of which came in the second half, while Megan Riedel and Bella Bauck each scored 9 points of their own.

Moriah Geiser chipped in with 4 points in the second half, while Alayna Baune and Kailey Keskitalo rounded out the scoring with 2 points apiece.
