NYM opens season with 4-1 win over Brandon-Evansville

0Johnson, Guck give up just 3 hits

The second ranked New York Mills Eagles picked up right where they left off last season as they defeated Brandon-Evansville by a score of 4-1 on Thursday. It was the first game of the season for the Eagles as they outhit the Chargers by a margin of 10-3.
NY Mills scored a run in the first, second, third and fifth innings as Jonah Johnson and Jake Guck combined to give up just 3 hits and 2 walks over 7 innings. They also struck out 14 hitters.
The Eagles got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning when Johnson scored on an error, after reaching base earlier in the inning on a two out walk.
NY Mills took a 2-0 lead just one inning later when Will Oakes hit an RBI double to bring Bode Roberts across the plate to score. The Eagles made it 3-0 in the third inning when Johnson scored his second run of the game when Breck Hensch hit a two out RBI single.
Johnson had a no hitter going through 3 innings, but that was broken up with one out in the top of the fourth inning when the Chargers picked up their first hit of the game. The runner would later cross home plate with two outs in the inning on an error to make the game 3-1 in favor of NY Mills.
The Eagles once again gave themselves a bit of breathing room when Roberts hit a line drive to center field to bring Hensch across the plate to make the game 4-1.
Johnson picked up the win on the mound for the Eagles as he pitched 4 innings and struck out 9 hitters. He gave up just 1 unearned run. Hensch pitched 3 innings in relief and gave up 2 hits and struck out 5 hitters.
Roberts had a solid night hitting as he went a perfect 3-3 from the plate with a double.
The Eagles will have a busy week this week as they will host Sebeka on Tuesday, travel to Henning for a doubleheader against Otter Tail Central on Thursday and host South Ridge in non-conference action on Friday night at 6:30 p.m.
