NY  Mills to travel to WDC, Menahga this week

Second ranked New York Mills took advantage of the first nice week of the season as the Eagles had four games in three days. The Eagles won all four games to improve to 5-0 on the season, after they defeated Sebeka, Frazee and Otter Tail Central in a doubleheader.

This week NY Mills will travel to Wadena-Deer Creek on Tuesday and Menahga on Friday in their only scheduled action of the week. 

Tuesday

NY Mills got their Park Region Conference season underway on Tuesday as they made quick work of Sebeka. The Eagles outhit the Trojans by a 15-4 margin as they came away with a 12-2 win.

After Sebeka opened the scoring in the top of the first inning, the Eagles scored a run of their own in the bottom of the first inning on a Jonah Johnson fielder’s choice. 

The Eagles added 4 more runs in the second inning on an RBI single by Jonah Ruther, a passed ball and a 2-run double by Jacob Guck. 

Sebeka answered with a run in the top of the third inning to make the score 5-2, before the Eagles put the game out of reach with an RBI double by Bode Roberts and an RBI single by Cody Barthel to make the game 7-2. 

Cody Barthel picked up the win on the mound in Thursday’s Park Region Conference game against Otter Tail Central.

The Eagles added 3 more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and brought the game to a close in the sixth inning when Hunter Holtti hit an RBI single to end the game by the 10-run rule. 

Roberts led the way offensively as he went 4-4 with 3 RBIs in the win, while Guck and Barthel also finished with multiple hits. 

Guck picked up the win on the mound as he pitched 5 innings and gave up just 3 hits and 2 earned runs. Nathan Fischer pitched a scoreless sixth inning by securing 3 strikeouts.

Wednesday

NY Mills made the trek down Highway 10 to take on the Frazee Hornets in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles broke a scoreless tie in the top of the second inning on a Monte Briard fielder’s choice, and jumped out to a 4-0 lead one inning later when Brayden Ehnert hit an RBI double, Bode Roberts hit an RBI single and Briard hit an RBI single of his own.

After Frazee answered with 3 runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, NY Mills added a run in the fourth inning on a wild pitch and another run in the top of the fifth inning when Briard hit a sacrifice fly to left field to bring Roberts around to score to make the game 6-3 in favor of NY Mills.

Frazee added a run late, but the Eagles held off the late charge to come away with a 6-4 win. 

Briard finished with 3 RBIs in the win, while Roberts had a pair of hits. Bren Salo picked up the win on the mound as he pitched 4 innings and have up just 6 hits and 3 unearned runs. He also struck out 9 hitters. Will Oakes picked up a 2 inning save as he pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh inning after Jonah Johnson pitched a scoreless fifth inning.

Thursday

The Eagles improved to 3-0 in conference action with a pair of lopsided wins over Otter Tail Central on Thursday night. After securing a 13-3 win in the opening game of the night, the Eagles defeated the Bulldogs by a score of 13-4 in the night cap. 

In the opening game of the day, the Eagles outhit the Bulldogs by a margin of 11-3 as they scored 4 runs in the first inning, 2 in the second, 5 in the third inning and another 2 runs int he fifth inning. 

Breck Hensch had a big game from the plate as the senior went a perfect 3-3 with 3 RBIs and a double to lead the way. 

Bode Roberts continued his strong start to the season by going 2-2 with a pair of RBIs in the win. 

Cody Barthel picked up the win on the mound as he pitched 4 innings and gave up 1 earned run, while striking out 5 hitters. 

In the second game of the night, the Bulldogs took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but couldn’t hold on as the Eagles outhit OTC 15-3 on their way to a 13-4 win.

The Eagles answered the first inning score by the Bulldogs with 3 runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning and a massive 8 run bottom of the second inning, which was highlighted by a 3-run triple by Roberts, a Brayden Ehnert RBI single, a Monte Briard RBI single, Barthel fielder’s choice and an RBI single by Jonah Ruther. 

NY Mills added 2 more runs in the fifth inning to come away with a 13-4 win. 

Ehnert picked up the win on the mound as he struck out 10 hitters over 4 innings. He also gave up just 1 earned run in the win.
