Finnish trip to take place from September 15-26

The New York Mills Regional Cultural Center is excited to offer a unique opportunity to travel to Finland.  “Traditions of Finland” with the Cultural Center in New York Mills is planned with EF/Go Ahead Tours, and will take place Sept. 15-26.

During this 12-day tour, travelers will have the opportunity to learn about Finnish arts, culture and history.  The trip includes 10 nights in handpicked hotels, cooking class, beer tasting, wine tasting, guided sightseeing tours to many historical and cultural sites, and a group craft at the world-renowned iittala glass factory.

The tour is limited to 26 people and is not open to the general public on the Go Ahead Tour Site; instead, it is a specialized tour created just for the NY Mills Regional Cultural Center as part of our “Window to the World” program.

The Cultural Center’s vision statement includes the organizational goal of “celebrating the local and being a window to the world.”  In 2019, the Cultural Center launched its “Window to the World” program, which offered a travel experience along with related workshops and events held locally.  The idea behind this strategy is to offer both an actual travel experience as well as local opportunities to learn about another culture through hands-on workshops, classes, and group experiences right here at home.

That first experience focused on Italian culture and included a trip to Italy for 18 travelers in June 2019. The next trip was originally planned for Finland in 2021, but was postponed to 2022 due to COVID. 2022 travel dates to Finland are Sept. 15-26.  Local workshops about Finnish arts and culture are being held throughout the summer (June 29, July 27, and Aug. 24 each from 6-7 pm). A gallery show of Finnish photographs and art is planned for December 2022.
