The New York Mills trap season is over and the team had their final awards night on Wednesday, July 13. 

The Eagles had a great season. After taking first place in the conference, NY Mills didn’t place at the state shoot, but the Eagles were missing several of their top guns due to the state baseball championship happening at the same time.    

NY Mills still had five perfect rounds shot at state by Kailey Keskitalo, Maison Perry, Megan Riedel, Simon Snyder and Sawyer Wedde.

Top varsity scores and team medal winners at state were:

   91 – Xander Wedde & Derek Gibble

Megan Riedel also picked up her first place female conference Medal when NY Mills went to state, and is also holding the teams first place team trophy in the picture.

Kailey Keskitalo hit 25 straight targets at the state shoot. 

Caitilin Reitmeyer won a trophy for the most improved shooter during the award night.

Sawyer Wedde won a trophy for the most 25 straights shot for the season as he shot five perfect rounds of 25 straight.

Out of 40 team members, 33 had a varsity average of 19 or above this season, which earned them all a letter in trap, along with one other member of the team, Izzy Nesland, who earned the “coaches choice” award letter.

Ten years ago NY Mills High School started a trap program.    

“After 10 years of coaching the team, my wife, Melodie (our trap secretary) and I have decided to retire from coaching.  I’d like to thank everyone that we’ve had the pleasure of coaching over the past 10 years, along with all the parents, our coaches (Adam Wedde, Jim and Shelly Frahm, Aaron Menze, and Nate Weigel),” said head coach Tom Kotarski. ”A special thanks to Aaron Menze for building us a beautiful range, and all the people and companies who have contributed donations for our team to help keep our sport affordable. You are all part of why our team was so successful.  There will be a new coach for next year, not sure who yet, and I’m looking forward to watching the team continue to thrive.”
