Longtime state senator is retiring at the end of the year
Senator Bill Ingebrigtsen was recognized by the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities (CGMC) with the Minnesota Legacy Award on July 28 during the Coalition’s three-day summer conference in Red Wing. This award is given, upon retirement, to legislators who had a particularly positive impact on Greater Minnesota cities during their a careers.
Sen. Ingebrigtsen, a Republican from Alexandria, will conclude his tenure in the Legislature after his fifth term in the Minnesota State Senate. As chair of the Senate Environment and Natural Resources Finance Committee, Ingebrigtsen has been a strong champion in efforts to improve regulatory requirements for cities and their wastewater facilities. He successfully secured funding for municipal efforts to battle per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in water and protect Minnesotans from these dangerous “forever chemicals.” He was an intelligent voice for local governments at the Legislature for this complex and important issue.
“Sen. Ingebrigtsen has been a strong proponent of common-sense regulatory reform,” said Pat Baustian, Mayor of Luverne and President of the CGMC. “He fought for legislation that improves the regulatory process and give our cities better tools to fight against costly and unscientific water quality regulations. We appreciate all his hard work.”
CGMC is a nonprofit, nonpartisan advocacy organization representing over 100 cities outside of the Twin Cities metropolitan area. The Coalition educates legislators about issues important to Greater Minnesota.
