Organization provided $52,500 in scholarships from tournament proceeds

Lund Boats, a leading manufacturer of aluminum and fiberglass fishing boats, continues to give back to the next generation of anglers providing scholarships through the Student Angler Tournament Trail (SATT), a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing fishing opportunities and environmental awareness for students through competition, scholarships, and education.

“As a result of Lund’s support, the Minnesota Student Angler Tournament Trail has impacted thousands of young anglers since forming in 2018,” said Natalie Peterson, President, SATT.

This year, SATT held eight tournaments, awarding more than $52,000 in scholarships. Lund has been proud to sponsor the organization and its mission since its inception in 2018, supporting its growth to one of the largest independent trails in the nation. Today, SATT offers opportunities to engage fishing enthusiasts of all levels, including the Lund Virtual Fishing League (VFL), which is open to anglers as young as five. The VFL makes tournament fishing accessible to students from all backgrounds, as they can fish from a boat, canoe, kayak or shore, and on the lake of their choice.

“We are proud to support the SATT and its mission to expose the next generation of anglers to the sport of fishing,” said Jason Oakes, Director of Marketing, Lund Boats. “It’s been an incredible journey over the past four years, and we look forward to supporting the SATT’s continued success welcoming new anglers on the water for years to come.”

Throughout the 2022 season, nearly 200 teams participated in the events, with the final State Tournament held September 10-11 at Big Stone Lake in Ortonville, Minnesota. Of the 21 schools from across the state that participated, the anglers from Becker earned first place with a 30-fish weight of 107.71 pounds. The teams from Brainerd and Rosemount took second and third place, respectively.

“The impact of our events extends beyond the youth participants,” said Jimmy Bell, a founding member of the SATT and current president of the VFL. “They have reengaged a group of adults as the students have pulled their parents, friends, and relatives back into the sport.”
