NY Mills improves to 3-0 in Park Region action

Kali Olson finished with 30 kills and her sister Ayla Olson added another 21 kills, as the Eagles defeated the Sebeka Trojans by a score of 3-2 on Thursday night. Kali Olson’s 30 kills were the most kills in a single game of any Eagle player in recent history and kept NY Mills tied atop the Park Region Conference standings with Henning and Wadena-Deer Creek. All three teams are a perfect 3-0 in the conference, while the Eagles are also 8-3 overall.

After hosting Brandon-Evansville on Monday night, the Eagles will host Pillager in Park Region Conference action on Thursday night, before heading to Barnesville on Saturday for a tournament. 

Monday

In a game that came down to a few points either way, NY Mills defeated Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal 3-1 (25-21, 25-12, 23-25, 25-21) on Monday night. 

The Eagles were led offensively by Kali Olson who had a big night at the net as she finished with 5 blocks and 23 kills. She was also a perfect 13-13 serving from the line. Her sister Ayla Olson finished with 9 kills and led the team with 21 assists, while picking up 21 digs on the night. 

Bella Bauck led the team defensively with 23 digs, while Kali Olson had 15 digs and Kaylee Meech finished with 12. 

Kailey Keskitalo also finished with a perfect night serving as she finished 18-18 from the service line with a pair of aces.

Thursday

Kali Olson had one of the best offensive games in recent history as the senior finished with 30 kills. Head coach Tammy Olson said the 30 kills were the most any Eagle player has had since she took over as head coach several years ago. 

In addition to her 30 kills, Olson finished with 4 blocks, 23 assists and 14 digs. 

Not to be outdone, her sister Ayla Olson finished with 21 kills and 28 assists of her own as the Eagles defeated the Sebeka Trojans in five games on Thursday night. 

After falling in the first game by a score of 25-17, the Eagles bounced back to tie the match up at 1-1 with a 25-21 win in the second game. Sebeka was able to take a close third game by a score of 26-24, before the Eagles once again tied the match up at 2-2 with a dominating 25-16 win in the fourth game.

In the fifth and final game of the night, the Eagles defeated the Trojans by a score of 15-10 to come away with the five game win.

For the second straight game, Kailey Keskitalo finished with a perfect night serving the ball. She was a perfect 20-20 from behind the line with 1 ace. She also finished with 6 kills in the win. 

Defensively, Bella Bauck led the way with 29 digs.
