Pierro places first in boys JV race in Pelican Rapids

Last Thursday the New York Mills cross country team competed in the Pelican Rapids meet on a sunny, but very windy day, and had numerous runners placing well. 

The NY Mills girls’ team placed second with Jada Goeson taking second overall in a super-close finish while Katherin Garcia placed ninth.  

Simon Snyder was the top varsity guy for the Eagles and foreign exchange student, Matteo Pierro, took first in the JV boys’ race. It was Pierro’s first time competing in cross country.

Coach Greg Esala was pleased with how the meet went last week.

“Every time we compete we learn more about how we can improve in the future,” he said. “Our runners all put great effort as they strive to do their best.”  

NY Mills will run next in the Perham Yellowjackets Harrier Invite on Thursday, Oct. 6, with the first race scheduled for 3:45 p.m.  

At this large meet, there will be races for elementary students right up to the varsity runners and it will all take place at Arvig Park on the north side of Perham.
