0Goeson takes eighth place individually to lead NYM
The New York Mills cross country team finished their season this past week as they ran in both the Park Region Conference and the Section 8A meets.
Eagles compete at PRC meet
On October 18 the NY Mills runners participated in the Park Region Conference meet in Menahga and came back with some top awards.
Sophomore Jada Goeson took sixth place, while eighth grader Brielle Malone was ninth in the varsity girls’ race. Both girls earned all-conference recognition. This was the second year in a row for Malone to be all-conference and Goeson was all-conference for the fourth straight year.
The NY Mills girls team placed fourth in Menahga and the team included Jada, Brielle, Katherin Garcia, McKenzie Draves, Rosemary Laudenbach, and Kaitlyn Geiser.
Matteo Pierro won the JV boys’ race, and Simon Snyder was the first NY Mills varsity boy to finish.
Maggy Weller took home seventh place in the girls’ JH race.
Eagles run in section meet
The Eagles cross country team went to Bagley last Friday and ran in the Section 8A meet. Many runners had great times as Jada Goeson led the girl’s team to an eighth place finish, the highest team finish NY Mills has ever had at a section meet.
Goeson finished in 17th place, the highest place ever for any Eagle runner and only two places away from qualifying for the state meet.
In the boys’ race Elijah Geiser was 83rd and Simon Snyder was 86th out of 116 racers. The NY Mills boys finished 16th out of the 21 schools who had runners in the race.
Coach Greg Esala was proud of how the Eagles ran throughout this season.
“Our runners have worked hard all year. It was great to see them all do well at the end of the year, They all put in great effort at practice and at meets,” he said.
The Eagles would like to thank their fans for attending and cheering on their athletes at the various meets they had this year. Also, a special thank you to Bob and David Sonnenberg who graciously allowed NY Mills to practice and host meets on their wonderful trails.
