Deer rifle season ended November 13

Nearly 100,000 deer were harvested in the first week of the firearm hunting season with 94,945 harvests reported as of early Friday, Nov. 11

Of the deer harvested, 44.58 percent were adult males, 38.95 percent adult females and the remainder were nearly equal numbers of juveniles from both genders, 9.24 percent male, 7.23 percent female.

In the immediate area, 1,904 were harvested in permit area 239, 2,881 in zone 240 and 4,018 in zone 241. All three permit areas connect just south of Perham

Overall, the opening weekend of the season was down 23 percent statewide from last year, according to the Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

Hunters registered 49,274 deer statewide during the opening weekend. 

Just over 150,000 were harvested in total during the 2021 firearms season.

The season continues until Nov. 13. 

Next year’s firearms deer opener is scheduled for Nov. 4, 2023.
