The New York Mills Eagles opened their season with a pair of non-conference games last week.

On Tuesday the Eagles traveled to Underwood to take on the fourth ranked Rockets. After trailing by a score of 33-15 at halftime, the Eagles played point-for-point with the Rockets in the second half as they were outscored just 32-31 in the final 18 minutes of action.

NY Mills stayed in the game in the second half thanks to seven 3-point shots, including five in the second half alone. 

Bella Bauck led the way offensively as she scored 13 points, including 10 points in the second half. Ayla Olson hit three 3-pointers to finish with 11 points, while Kali Olson finished with 8 points, Alayna Baune scored 4 points, Annika Dunrud and Maya Radniecki each hit a 3-pointer to finish with 3 points and Aidyn Baune rounded out the scoring with 2 points.

On Thursday the Eagles traveled to Moorhead to take on Park Christian in another Section 6A game against the Falcons. This time around the Eagles were able to jump out to an early lead and hung on for a 58-47 win. NY Mills led by a score of 31-22 at halftime.

Bella Bauck led the way offensively for NY Mills as she hit three 3-pointers to finish with 14 points. Alayna Baune scored 11 points, while Kailey Keskitalo and Kali Olson both reached double-figures with 10 points apiece. 

Ayla Olson finished with 8 points, Aidyn Baune scored 3 points and Maya Radniecki rounded out a balanced scoring attack with 2 points. As a team, the Eagles went 13-20 from the free throw line.

This week the Eagles will open their Park Region Conference season when they travel to Sebeka on Tuesday, before hosting Wadena-Deer Creek on Friday night in NY Mills home opener.
