New York Mills senior organizes blood drive

A local blood drive has been planned for Dec. 14 at St. Peter’s Church in New York Mills.
NY Mills High School senior Jaida Newborg organized the blood drive as a project for the National Honor Society and welcomes everyone eligible to sign up and donate.
The blood drive will start at 10 a.m. and will continue to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in NY Mills.
According to the Red Cross, whole blood eligible donors must be in good health and feeling well, 16 years old or older, weigh at least 110 pounds, and can only donate every 56 days.
In January, the Red Cross declared the first ever blood-crisis as the national blood shortage became so severe. The blood shortage is still ongoing, however, donors have kept healthy blood available for those in need of transfusions and other medical necessities.
Those donating blood will need to complete a RapidPass screening which is a simple tool the Red Cross uses for completing health history questions and pre-reading information before the blood draw.
While blood donations are lower than pre-pandemic levels, those who are eligible are strongly encouraged to donate to help replenish American blood supply levels to aid hospitals in critical life-saving procedures that require healthy blood.
