The New York Mills Eagles came up just short of picking up their first win of the season on Thursday night. The Eagles came up on the short end of a 57-44 score, but continue to improve on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court.
“We knew they were going to sit in a 2-3 zone all game and put in a lot of time in practice getting better versus zones,” said head coach Mike Baune. “It definitely paid off as we got a lot of easy looks in the first half, but unfortunately those shots weren’t dropping in the second half.”
In the end the Eagles went just 1-12 from 3-point range, which made it difficult to break the Pirates out of their zone. Even though the Eagles came out on the short end of the game, Baune said he was happy with NY Mills’ performance as they came just short of picking up their first win of the season.
“I was super happy with how hard the kids played in the second half,” he said. “We had the gym rocking as the crowd was trying to cheer us on to our first win. It was like old times and a lot of fun, but we couldn’t pull it off as we lost 57-44.”
The Eagles were led offensively by Teagan Lausten who finished with 14 points, while Hunter Holtti had a solid game with 7 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 assists.
