Shop was most recently used as an Amish sawmill

A shop that was being utilized as an Amish sawmill in rural Deer Creek has been determined to be a total loss after an early morning fire on Wednesday, Feb. 8.

The Deer Creek Fire Department was paged to a shop fire at 60151 County Highway 50 in rural Deer Creek at 12:46 a.m. on Wednesday morning. A deputy on the scene prior to the fire department arrival advised that the building was fully engulfed. 

Due to the size of the building, mutual aid was requested from Bluffton, Henning, Hewitt and Wadena Fire Departments. Fire personnel were on the scene for approximately four hours. 

Due to the building collapsing, an excavator was brought in to assist with the removal of metal.

The Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office was called to assist with the origin and cause of the fire. The building was a total loss and there were no injuries reported as a result of the fire. The cause of the fire is currently under the investigation by the Deer Creek Fire Department, Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office. 

Responding to the call was the Deer Creek Fire Department, Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, Tri-County Ambulance, Bluffton, Henning, Hewitt and Wadena Fire Departments.
