On March 7, at 9:31 p.m., county dispatchers received a call concerning a structural fire near Highway 59, close to Dunvilla and northeast of Pelican Rapids. Firefighters were unable to save a shop near a residence.

Sheriff deputies said close to $15,000 in tools were damaged in the fire.

“There were no injuries,” said a deputy. “First responders, once on the scene, reported seeing flames and smoke coming from the building. The fire appeared to have started accidentally in a garbage can inside the shop.”

Assisting sheriff deputies were members of the Pelican Rapids and Vergas fire departments. They were able to extinguish the fire which was non-suspicious in nature.
