Members of the New York Mills Bio Girls wrapped up a busy year with a service project at the New York Mills Food Shelf.

The New York Mills Bio girls held their final showcase of the season last week. The group completed a food drive and stocked the shelves at the NY Mills Food Shelf.

The youth collected items to donate to the local food shelf and held an end of year celebration.

“Bio: Beautiful Inside and Out” Bio Girls is a program geared to improve the self-esteem in adolescent girls grades 2nd-6th through empowerment of self and service to others. Each session focuses on life skills, devotions, small group mentoring and an exercise.

The NY Mills group is lucky to have Leona Cichy as their yoga instructor and Jen Saewert was the program coordinator.

Small group mentors include Stephanie VonRuden, Amy Wallgren, Hailey Muehler, Kelly Felix, KaLyn Schneider, Kayla Ellenson, Sarah Carlson and Mandy Schik.

This year the group focused on the following life skills: celebrating their out strengths, friendships and cliques, social cognition and taking a walk in other people’s shoes.

The NY Mills Bio girls also completed a kindness project by leading a food drive and sticking the NY Mills Food Shelf with 518 pounds of non-perishable goods.
