NYM defeats Frazee in non-conference action

The New York Mills Eagles remain unbeaten after sweeping a doubleheader against Pillager on Tuesday and defeating Frazee in non-conference action on Thursday night.

This week the Eagles will host Sebeka in a doubleheader on Tuesday night, before traveling to Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale on Thursday for another doubleheader. 

April 18

Grace Brasel came to the ballpark and meant business on Tuesday, April 18, driving in four on two hits to lead New York Mills past Menahga 11-5 on Tuesday. Brasel drove in runs on a single in the third and a double in the sixth.

The Eagles earned the victory despite allowing Menahga to score four runs in the fifth inning. 

NY Mills got things started in the first inning when Ayla Olson singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

The Eagles notched four runs in the third inning when Brasel, Kalyn Balbach and Haley Korkowski each drove in runs during the inning.

Kailey Keskitalo was the winning pitcher for NY Mills as she lasted seven innings, allowing 11 hits and five runs while striking out eight and walking one.

As a team, the Eagles had 14 hits and were led by Korkowski, Kaitlyn Geiser, Balbach, Brasel and Kali Olson who all had multiple hits. Korkowski led NY Mills with three hits in four at bats.

In its other game against the Braves on Tuesday, the base paths were crowded today for both offenses in a high-scoring game with NY Mills coming out on top against Menahga, 8-6.

NY Mills opened up scoring in the first inning, when Bella Huwe singled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs.

The Eagles notched three runs in the sixth inning. Haley Korkowski and Kailey Keskitalo each had RBls in the frame.

Annika Dunrud was credited with the victory on the mound as she allowed zero hits and three runs over three innings, striking out three. Keskitalo threw four innings in relief out of the bullpen. Keskitalo recorded the last 12 outs to earn the save for NY Mills.

Keskitalo and Korkowski each had multiple hits for NY Mills with Keskitalo going 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the way.

Tuesday

NY Mills ran off with the lead late in the game in a 5-3 victory over Pillager on Tuesday. The game was tied at 3-3 with NY Mills batting in the top of the 10th inning when Kailey Keskitalo grounded out, scoring one run.

In the second inning, NY Mills got their offense started when Annika Dunrud singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run.

Pillager evened things up at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning when an error scored two runs for Pillager.

Keskitalo was the winning pitcher for NY Mills as she pitched all 10 innings, allowing six hits and three runs while striking out 13.

The Eagles totaled 10 hits in the game with Kalyn Balbach, Grace Brasel, and Kali Olson leading the way with multiple hits on the day. Balbach led the team with three hits in four at bats.

In its other game against the Huskies, the Eagles came away with a 12-3 win. 

NY Mills scored on a double by Kailey Keskitalo, a double by Ayla Olson, and an error in the first inning.

They also put up four runs in the fifth inning. NY Mills’ big inning was driven by a single by Haley Korkowski and a ground out by Kali Olson.

Annika Dunrud got the win for NY Mills as she allowed four hits and three runs over five innings, striking out seven. Keskitalo threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

The Eagles collected 10 hits as a team with Keskitalo, Korkowski, and Kalyn Balbach each collecting multiple hits in the win. 

Thursday

NY Mills defeated Frazee by a score of 14-4 on Thursday night. The Eagles got things started in the first inning when Kali Olson singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

The Eagles would add six runs in the fourth inning. Olson, Grace Brasel, Annika Dunrud, and Kailey Keskitalo, all sent runners across the plate with RBls in the inning.

Keskitalo was credited with the victory for NY Mills as she surrendered four runs on three hits over five innings, striking out five.

NY Mills tallied nine hits on the day with Brasel, Olson, and Dunrud all managed multiple hits. Brasel led the team with three hits in four at bats.
