New York Mills picked up three Park Region Conference wins last week as the Eagles improved to 6-2 overall.

On Tuesday, the Eagles defeated the Huskies by a score of 15-10, before sweeping a doubleheader with Parkers Prairie on Friday night by scores of 4-2 and 4-3.

This week the Eagles will host Browerville in non-conference action on Monday, before traveling to Sebeka for a conference game on Tuesday. On Thursday the Eagles will travel to Henning to take on the Otter Tail Central Bulldogs, before hosting a quadrangular on Friday with Cherry, South Ridge and Ashby. The Eagles will take on Cherry at 12 p.m. and South Ridge at 6 p.m.

Tuesday

Monte Briard went 4-5 from the plate with 3 RBIs and Hunter Holtti was a perfect 4-4 from the plate as the NY Mills Eagles outslugged Pillager 15-10 on Tuesday night. The Eagles collected 16 hits as a team as all of their runs were scored in just three innings.

The Eagles got things going quickly on Tuesday night as they scored 9 runs in the bottom of the first inning. Among the highlights of the inning was a bases clearing 3-run double by Brayden Ehnert to bring 3 runs across the plate and make the score 9-0 in favor of NY Mills.

Ehnert hit another RBI double in the third inning to bring Jonah Ruther around to score to make the score 10-2. Pillager scored 4 runs in the top of the sixth inning to bring the score within 10-8 in favor of NY Mills, but the Eagles gave themselves a bit of breathing room down the stretch as they scored 5 more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on a 2-run single by Briard, a wild pitch and a pair of errors. In all, NY Mills and Pillager combined for 12 errors in the game.

Pillager scored 2 runs in the top of the seventh inning but stranded a runner on third base to end the game.

Seven Eagles took the mound on Tuesday night with Ruther picking up the win as he pitched 1 inning and struck out 2 hitters.

Friday

In a stark contrast from Tuesday night, the Eagles swept a pair of low scoring games against Parkers Prairie on Friday night by scores of 4-2 and 4-3.

In the first game of the night, the Eagles needed 12 innings to defeat the Panthers by a score of 4-2. As a team the Eagles had 14 hits, but none were bigger than a two out single by DaShaun Robinson with two outs in the top of the seventh inning. Robinson hit a single to bring Brayden Ehnert across the plate and tie the game at 2-2.

The game remained that way until the top of the 12th inning when Bode Roberts hit an RBI single with the bases loaded to make the score 3-2. Monte Briard would later cross the plate on a passed ball to make the score 4-2 in favor of the Eagles.

Robinson set the Panthers down in order in the bottom of the 12th inning to secure the 4-2 win. Robinson pitched 5 innings of relief and gave up just 1 hit, while striking out 8 batters.

In the nightcap, the Eagles were able to make the most of a 4 run bottom of the fifth inning to come away with a 4-3 win.

Trailing 3-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, Monte Briard put the Eagles on the scoreboard with a sacrifice fly to center field. Bode Roberts tied the game up at 3-3 when he hit a 2-run double to bring Jonah Ruther and Brayden Ehnert across the plate.

The Eagles went in front for good on the next batter when Hunter Holtti scored on a passed ball to make the score 4-3.

The Panthers had a chance to tie the game late with runners on second and third base with one out, but Ruther caught a fly ball in center field and threw out the runner trying to advance to home to end the game.

Ruther picked up the win on the mound as he went 5 innings and gave up just 5 hits and 1 earned run, while striking out 5 hitters.
