Eagles split doubleheader with Trojans

New York Mills is in the thick of its Park Region Conference schedule as the Eagles went 3-1 in a pair of doubleheaders last week.

On Tuesday the Eagles split a doubleheader with Sebeka, before sweeping Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale on Thursday.

This week the Eagles will travel to Wadena-Deer Creek on Tuesday for a doubleheader, before hosting Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal on Thursday in non-conference action. 

On Saturday the Eagles will travel to Jackson for the annual Jackson County Central tournament. 

Tuesday

Kailey Keskitalo didn’t allow a single run against Sebeka, throwing a complete game shutout and leading New York Mills to an 8-0 victory on Tuesday.

The Eagles got on the board in the first inning when Ayla Olson singled on a 3-2 count to score 1 run.

The Eagles added 4 more runs in the fifth inning. The runs came  off of singles by Keskitalo, Bella Huwe and Annika Dunrud and an error on a ball put in play by Olson.

Keskitalo was the winning pitcher for NY Mills as she allow 3 hits and no runs over seven innings, striking out 7.

As a team, the Eagles racked up 13 hits with Huwe, Haley Korkowski, Olson and Keskitalo leading the way with multiple hits in the game. Huwe went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead the team. 

In the second game of the night, NY Mills watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in an 11-6 loss to Sebeka. Sebeka scored on a single by Lake, a double by Eckman, a walk by Erickson, and a walk by Watson in the first inning.

The Eagles collected 7 hits and Sebeka had 9 in the high-scoring affair.

NY Mills tallied 3 runs in the seventh inning. Violet Radniecki, Kalyn Balbach and Haley Korkowski all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.

Sebeka scored five runs in the fourth inning. The offensive onslaught by Sebeka was led by Stevens, Lake, and Rathcke, all sending runners across the plate with RBls in the inning.

Annika Dunrud started the game for the Eagles and allowed two hits and four runs over 1/3 of an inning. Kailey Keskitalo threw 5 2/3 innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Thursday

An 8-run fourth inning led NY Mills to a 15-3 victory on Thursday against Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale. NY Mills’ offense in the inning came from singles by Kaitlyn Geiser and Kalyn Balbach, a walk by Kailey Keskitalo, by Ayla Olson, a ground out by Geiser and a double by Annika Dunrud.

The Eagles got on the board in the first inning when Bella Huwe grounded out, scoring 1 run.

NY Mills notched 8 runs in the fourth inning. Geiser, Balbach, Olson, Keskitalo, Dunrud and Geiser all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.

Keskitalo was the winning pitcher for NY Mills as she allowed 4 hits and 3 runs over 5 innings, striking out 6 and walking 1.

The Eagles had 13 hits as a team with Dunrud, Haley Korkowski, Olson, Balbach, and Kali Olson all managed multiple hits in the win.

In the second game of the night, both teams were strong in the circle but NY Mills defeated BHV 3-1.

Annika Dunrud allowed just 3 hits to the Raiders.

The Raiders opened up scoring in the first inning on a wild pitch, but would not score another run the rest of the way.

Dunrud earned the victory as she surrendered 1 run on 3 hits over 7 innings, striking out 3

Bella Huwe got the Eagles on the scoreboard as she hit a home run in the first inning. 

Haley Korkowski led NY Mills with a pair of hits in the win.
