Ottertail resident scammed out of a large amount of money

Sheriff deputies, on May 11, reported the arrests of three people who were charged with burglaries at Wall Lake, west of Underwood, and at Swan Lake, south of Fergus Falls.

Authorities said items were taken from garages and vehicles in those two areas. There were a minimum of 20 thefts at Wall Lake and Swan Lake from the end of April until early May.

Those arrested were males with ages ranging from 17 to 19.

One injured in roadway accident

One person was injured in a single-vehicle accident late in the morning on May 10, southeast of Deer Creek in eastern Otter Tail County.

Sheriff deputies said a woman lost control of her vehicle while southbound on Highway 75. The vehicle collided with a mailbox and garbage can before coming to a stop. 

The driver was treated with minor injuries at the hospital in Wadena.

Scam reported, victim loses money

Sheriff deputies, on May 9, said a resident of Ottertail was scammed and lost a large amount of money after being told she needed to take steps to remedy a reported theft of her identity.

The victim transferred funds through Bitcoin at various locations on seven separate occasions. Deputies estimated the lost dollar amount at close to $100,000.
