Track team prepares for sub section meet

Jada Goeson not only set a personal best in the 800-meter run at the Park Region Conference meet on Tuesday night, but she also broke the school and conference record. The NY Mills sophomore finished with a time of 2:21.87 to break the conference record that was previously held by Alicia Boe from United North Central, which was set back in 2011. She also broke the school record that was set by Alicia Boe in 2009 by almost 4 seconds. Boe’s school record was 2:25.35. 

In addition to Goeson, the Alayna Baune took second place in the conference meet in the triple jump with a jump of 32’8” and the 4×200-meter relay team of Aidyn Baune, Payton Lausten, Alayna Baune and Katherin Garcia took second place with a season best time of 1:54.34.

In addition to the conference meet, the Eagles participated in the Otter Tail Central Invite on Friday night to bring their regular season to a close.

This Thursday the Eagles will participate in the sub section meet at United North Central. The section meet will be held on Thursday, June 1 in Pelican Rapids. 

Tuesday

NY Mills set 11 personal bests, including Jada Goeson’s school and conference record setting mark in the 800-meter run at the Park Region Conference meet in Sebeka on Tuesday night. In addition to winning the 800-meter dash, Goeson placed third in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:40.9 to set a new personal best. 

Payton Lausten set a personal best in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 52.47 to finish in fourth place, and Alayna Baune took second place in the triple jump with a jump of 32’8”. 

In addition to Goeson and Lausten, the Eagles set a number of personal bests on Tuesday night including: Alayna Baune in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.48 to finish in fifth place, Katherin Garcia in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.69 to finish in sixth place, Trigueros in the 200-meter dash with a time of 33.14, Wilson in the long jump with a jump of 17’3 1/4”, Lorentz in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13/63, Brasel in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.81m Geiser in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5”26.22 and Carl Peterman in the discus with a throw of 70’11 3/4”.

The Eagles also set five season bests on Tuesday night, including the 4×200-meter relay team, the 4×100-meter relay team of Lausten, Trigueros, Julie Seim and Alexis Rudolph with a time of 58.37 to finish in fourth place, the 4×100-meter relay team of Justin Kassa, Gage Brasel, Royce Lorentz and Cole Wilson who finished with a time of 52.21 to finish in fifth place, the 4×200-meter relay team of Kassa, Brasel, Elijah Geiser and Wilson who finished with a time of 1:47.5 to finish in sixth place and Rudolph who finished with a season best throw in the shot put of 26’5 1/2”. 

Friday

NY Mills captured nine top three finishes, including a first place finish by the 4×800-meter relay team of Brielle Malone, Morgyn O’Dea, Dixie Dykhoff and Macy Koljonen who finished with a season best time of 11:19.95. 

Alayna Baune took second place in the meet in the triple jump with a jump of 32’2” and Payton Lausten took second place in the 300-meter hurdles with a personal best of 51.63. 

Malone took third place in the 1600-meter run with a time of 6:08.54, Katherin Garcia captured third place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.84 and O’Dea took third place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:10.49. 

Other top six finishes for the girls include: Alexis Rudolph who took fourth place in the discus with a throw of 77’9”, Josi Mindermann who took fifth place in the discus with a throw of 76’6”, Rudolph who took fifth place in the shot put with a throw of 23’9” and Josi Mindermann in the shot put who took sixth place with a throw of 23’8”.

On the boys side, Cole Wilson finished in second place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.96 and captured third place in the long jump with a jump of 16’10 3/4”. 

Elijah Geiser also captured third place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:24.95. 

Other top eight finishes included: Jeron Witt who placed sixth in the 3200-meter run with a time of 16:51.27, Geiser who posted a personal best in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:34.54 to finish in eighth place and Gage Brasel who took eighth place in the long jump with a jump of 14’8”.

Several Eagles posted personal records in the meet, including: Zaidie Trigueros in the 200-meter dash with a time of 32.52 and the long jump with a jump of 11’11”, Riley Pederson in the 200-meter dash with a time of 36.64, Julie Seim in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:16.21, Hazel Dykhoff in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:21.92, Ella Holmes in the junior high shot put with a throw of 23’6”, Carl Peterman in the discus with a throw of 71’ and shot put with a throw of 29’5” and Brasel in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.44.
