NYM wins 10th straight conference title

The New York Mills Eagles had their season come to an end on Tuesday night as they fell to Swanville by a score of 11-3 in the opening round of the Section 6A tournament. The loss ended the Eagles season with a record of 14-7 overall.

Prior to their loss, NY Mills secured their 10th straight Park Region Conference championship as they finished with a record of 10-4 in conference action. 

The New York Mills Eagles had their season come to an end on Tuesday night at the hands of the Swanville Bulldogs by a score of 11-3.

May 15

Monday’s game was a heartbreaker for NY Mills as they lost the lead late in a 7-3 defeat to Browerville. The game was tied at 2-2 with Browerville batting in the bottom of the fifth inning when an error scored one run for the Tigers.

Despite losing the Eagles outhit the Tigers by a margin of 6-5. 

Kailey Keskitalo took the loss for the Eagles as she surrendered 7 runs on 5 hits over 6 innings, striking out 8.

Haley Korkowski and Annika Dunrud picked up 2 hits for the Eagles to lead the team offensively.

NY Mills defeated Parkers Prairie by a score of 9-5 on Tuesday night. The Eagles broke the game open in the sixth inning when they scored 4 runes. The offensively onslaught was led by Kalyn Balbach, Bella Huwe, and Kali Olson, all driving in runs in the inning.

Kailey Keskitalo picked up the win by going 7 innings, allowing 9 hits and 5 runs while striking out 8 and walking 1.

The Eagles collected 6 hits in the win with Huwe and Balbach each picking up 2 hits in the win. 

In the second game of the night, NY Mills gave up 5 runs in the first inning, but still defeated Parkers Prairie 21-9.

NY Mills and the Panthers combined for 29 hits, with the Eagles outslugging Parkers Prairie 17-12. 

Parkers Prairie took an early lead in the first inning. An error scored one run for Parkers Prairie.

New York Mills picked up its 10th straight Park Region Conference championship earlier this season and wrapped up their season with a record of 14-7 overall.

The Eagles took the lead for good with 6 runs in the third inning. In the third inning, Kaitlyn Geiser hit into a fielder’s choice, but 1 run scored, Haley Korkowski singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring 2 runs, Kalyn Balbach singled on a 2-0 count, scoring 1 run, Ayla Olson’s sac fly scored 1 run for NY Mills, and Grace Brasel singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

The Eagles added 7 more runs in the seventh inning thanks to Kacie Steinbach, Korkowski and Bella Huwe who all picked up an RBI in the inning.

The Eagles racked up 17 hits in the game with Ayla Olson, Kali Olson, Brasel, Huwe, Korkowski and Balbach all picking up multiple hits in the win.

The pair of wins clinched NY Mills’ 10th straight Park Region Conference championship.

May 17

NY Mills won two of three games at the annual Jackson County Central Tournament on Wednesday. 

In their first game of hte day, the Eagles seized victory in dramatic walk-off fashion, thanks to a walk-off single at the end of the game to topple the Worthington Trojans. The game was tied at 9-9 with the Eagles batting in the bottom of the seventh inning when Ayla Olson singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

Worthington opened the scoring in the first inning by scoring 5 runs. The offensive onslaught by Worthington was led by Hannah McNab, Anna Gordon, Brooklyn Bretzman, and Mileissa Espada, who each had RBIs in the inning.

Kailey Keskitalo picked up the win on the mound as she went 7 innings, allowing 9 runs on 5 hits and striking out 9.

Kali Olson hit a home run for the Eagles in the seventh inning. 

Ayla Olson, Kali Olson, Haley Korkowski and Grace Brasel all managed multiple hits for NY Mills.

In their second game of the day, the Eagles fell to Jackson County Central by a score of 6-2.

Jackson County Central Varsity Huskies scored on a double by Hadley Wachal, a single by Alexis O’Reilly, a single by Mady Wachal and a single by Renae Vancura in the first inning.

Wachal earned the win for Jackson County Central Varsity Huskies. Wachal went seven innings, allowing two runs on two hits and striking out 14.

Kailey Keskitalo took the loss for the Eagles as she pitched 7 innings, allowing 8 hits and 6 runs while striking out 4.

Keskitalo and Bella Huwe each managed one hit to lead the way.

In their third game of the day, NY Mills got things rolling in a big way as they defeated Murray County Central by a score of 12-2. 

Murray County Central got things moving in the first inning, when Jayda Hellewell singled on a 1-1 count, scoring 1 run.

NY Mills took the lead for good with 4 runs in the third inning. In the third inning Bella Huwe singled on a 2-1 count, scoring 1 run, Kali Olson singled on a 0-1 count, scoring 1 run, Kaitlyn Geiser singled on a 1-2 count, scoring 1 run, and Haley Korkowski singled on a 3-0 count, scoring one 1.

NY Mills tallied 5 runs in the fifth inning. New York Mills Varsity Eagles scored its runs on an RBI double by Kalyn Balbach.

Annika Dunrud picked up the win on the mound as she allowed 3 hits and 1 run over 4 1/3 innings and struck out 3 hitters. 

May 18

NY Mills fell to Otter Tail Central by a score of 11-10 in its regular season finale. 

The game was tied at 9-9 with OTC batting in the bottom of the sixth inning when Radzwill grounded out, scoring 1 run.

Ayla Olson drove in five runners in the loss. Olson drove in runs on a single in the first, a groundout in the third, and a single in the sixth.

NY Mills got things moving in the first inning, when Olson singled on a 1-2 count, scoring 1 run.

The  Eagles scored 3 runs in the fifth inning with Olson, Grace Brasel and Kali Olson each had RBIs in the frame.

OTC scored 4 runs in the fifth inning. Akerman, Dirkman, and Grabe all drove in runs in the inning.

Cameron was credited with the victory for OTC as she surrendered 10 runs on 5 hits over 7 innings, striking out 8.

Annika Dunrud took the loss for the Eagles as she allowed 7 hits and 9 runs over 4 innings, striking out 5.

Kailey Keskitalo started the game for the Eagles and lasted 2 innings, allowing 2 hits and 2 runs while striking out 1 and walking 1

The Eagles scattered 5 hits in the game. Olson and Haley Korkowski each had multiple hits for NY Mills.

The Eagles stole 14 bases during the game as three players stole more than one. Korkowski led the way with six.
