The New York Mills Regional Cultural Center is hosting its annual Regional Adult Art Show. This year’s theme is “The Only Home We’ve Known” and features the art of some of Minnesota’s finest artists. The art in this beautiful show is on display, with much of the art for sale, now through Saturday, June 24.

This annual show is a favorite for local artists and the regional community. It spotlights the incredible talent of rural Minnesota artists. The artwork ranges from prints, paintings, ceramics, mixed media, and weaving, to wood and steel sculpture. The work is varied and anyone who visits the show will find something that speaks to them.

This year’s theme connects to the Great American Think-Off question “Which is more important to protect: the environment or the economy?” For this year’s annual show, we asked artists to show us what “home” means to them. The diversity of the planet is amazing and the planet provides all that is needed for its inhabitants.  We asked the artists, “What is special about this blue dot spiraling in space?” and they answered with art that is beautiful, thought-provoking, sometimes whimsical, and overall an amazing display of talent.

All gallery visitors are invited to vote for their favorite piece of art; a People’s Choice Award will be given at the conclusion of the show on June 24.

A reception will be held on Friday, June 9 from 6-8 p.m. Artists will be talking about their creations beginning at 6:30 p.m. Refreshments and cash bar will be available, and live music will be provided by the band “The Confused” outdoors behind the Cultural Center from 7:30-9 p.m. Guests will also be able to meet the finalists for the Great American Think-Off at the reception. The Think-Off debate will be held on Saturday, June 10, starting at 7 p.m.

Preceding the reception on June 9, Otter Tail County Historical Society will lead a historic walking tour of NY Mills beginning at 5:15 p.m. and departing from the Cultural Center front steps. The cost is $8 per person payable to OTC Historical Society.

The NY Mills Regional Cultural Center Gallery is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are: Wednesdays and Thursdays 10 a.m. to 7 p.m, Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Private viewings can be arranged anytime by calling Cheryl Bannes at 385-3339 or emailing cheryl@kulcher.org.

These activities are made possible in part by the voters of Minnesota through an operating support grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

Visit www.kulcher.org or call the Cultural Center at 385-3339 with any questions.
