Caucus to be held Feb. 1 at various locations in OTC

The New York Mills Millers picked up a pair of wins and improved to 3-1 overall last week. 

On Wednesday night the Millers defeated the Deer Creek Shockers by a score of 8-5, before defeating the Wolf Lake Wolf Pack on Friday night by a score of 8-4 in their home opener. 

This week the Millers will host Clarissa on Friday night, before traveling to Staples for an afternoon game on Sunday. Friday’s game will get underway at 7:15 p.m. 

Wednesday

NY Mills and Deer Creek combined for 26 hits and 13 runs in an 8-5 win for the Millers on Wednesday night. 

After Deer Creek took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning, the Millers took the lead for good in the top of the third inning thanks to an RBI single by Derin Gaudette, a sacrifice fly by Brandon Kupfer and a bases loaded walk by Adam Patron that gave NY Mills a 4-2 lead. The Millers added another run in the fourth inning on a Kupfer bases loaded walk and a pair of runs in the seventh inning on a 2-run Austin Maneval single. 

Jacob Guck ended the scoring for the Millers in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI single that made the score 8-5 in favor of NY Mills. 

Guck led the way offensively with 4 hits, while Austin Maneval finished with 3 hits and a pair of RBIs. 

Caden Roberts picked up the win on the mound as he went 7 innings and gave up 9 hits and 3 earned runs, while striking out 6 hitters. Gaudette picked up the save by pitching 1 1/3 innings and giving up just 1 hit, while striking out 3 batters. 

Friday

Wolf Lake jumped out to a bit 4-0 lead in the top of the second inning, only to see the Millers blow past the Wolf Pack late to pick up an 8-4 win in the Millers’ home opener on Friday night. 

Trailing 4-0, Derin Gaudette put the Millers on the scoreboard with a triple to bring Jonah Johnson across the plate. Brandon Kupfer followed with a fielder’s choice to bring Gaudette across the plate. 

The Millers took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning when Kupfer led off the inning with a solo home run, before Austin Maneval hit a sacrifice fly to center field to tie the game at 4-4. Drey Roberts followed with an RBI single to give the Millers a 5-4 lead. 

NY Mills added a bit of insurance in the eighth inning when Maison Roberts scored on a wild pitch and Maneval hit an RBI single to make the score 7-4. Caden Roberts would later score in the inning on a passed ball to give the Millers the 8-4 advantage. 

Maneval picked up the complete game win by going all 9 innings and giving up just 6 hits and 1 earned run. He also struck out 11 hitters.
