New York Mills had its quest for four straight Section 6A championships come to an end last week with a pair of 1-run losses to Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa and Parkers Prairie.

DaShaun Robinson checks a runner back to first base during a game earlier this season.

In the winner’s bracket championship, the Eagles fell to BBE by a score of 5-4 on Monday, before falling to the Panthers by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday. The losses end the Eagles’ season with a record of 19-6 overall and a third place finish in the section.

Prior to their two losses last week the Eagles were 7-1 in 1 or 2-run games.

Monday

A 4-run top of the fourth inning put the Eagles in front 4-0 over Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa in the Section 6A winners bracket finals on Monday night. Unfortunately, the Jaguars scored 2 runs in the bottom half of the inning
and took the lead for good just one inning later to come away with a 5-4 win over the Eagles.

NY Mills played a bit of small ball in the top of the fourth inning when Jonah Ruther scored on a  Bode Roberts fielder’s choice that didn’t result in an out. Monte Briard scored on the next hitter when DaShaun Robinson hit another fielder’s choice on a bunt to make the score 2-0 in favor of the Eagles.

Will Oakes made the score 3-0 when he hit a squeeze bunt to the pitcher to bring Finn Roder across the plate. NY Mills scored a run on their fourth straight hitter when Waylen Fudge hit an RBI single to bring Robinson across the plate and make the score 4-0.

The Jaguars answered back in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI single and an error to make the score 4-2 in favor of the Eagles.

Just one inning later the Jaguars took the lead for good on a 2-run double and a sacrifice fly to right field to bring what would be the winning run across the plate and make the score 5-4.

Brayden Ehnert took the loss on the mound after pitching 6 innings and giving up 5 hits and 4 earned runs. He struck out 8 hitters.

Tuesday

For the second straight day, NY Mills took an early lead, only drop a 1-run game in the Section 6A tournament. Unfortunately, this time the Eagles had their season come to an end when the Parkers Prairie Panthers defeated the Eagles by a score of 3-2.

The Eagles broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning when Teegan Lausten scored on an error by the Panthers second basemen and Brayden Ehnert hit a sacrifice fly to center field to make the game 2-0. The Panthers scored what would be the winning run in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI single to give Parkers Prairie a 3-2 lead.

The loss ended the Eagles’ season with a record of 19-6 overall and a third place finish in the Section 6A tournament.
