Everything seems to be a little bigger and better in Ottertail. That includes the community’s signature summer concert series that will be back with an action packed line up this summer.

“This is going to be our biggest and best year ever,” said Ottertail Business and Community Association President Ron Grobeck.

The annual Music in the Park series will kick off with one of its biggest acts ever on Tuesday night when Sherwin Linton and the Cotton Kings perform in the community park. Linton has been performing his brand of country music since the late 1950s. In the 1970s he was a major draw after performing on numerous TV shows and performed from coast-to-coast. He was among the top nominees for Entertainer of the Year by the County Music Association in 1972 and 1973.

“Anyone who has been around this area knows Sherwin Linton and the Cotton Kings,” said Grobeck. “I think he is going to be a huge draw for the opener.”

In the mid 70s, Linton was also nominated for Entertainer of the Year and Best Male Vocalist by Music City News, the Academy of Country Music and several other organizations and trade publications. He has been inducted into the South Dakota Musicians Hall of Fame, the National Traditional County Music Hall of Fame and the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame.

Music in the Park will continue on June 27 when Elvis Presley comes to town as part of the Absolutely Elvis performance. Grobeck said the Elvis performance has been one of the best attended shows through the years.

On July 11 the Castaways will take the stage, Blue English will perform on July 25, Rick Adams and Rick Fiedler will perform on August 8 and Flashback will bring the concert series to an end on August 22.

Each performance will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the park. There is no cost to attend and a free-will donation will be taken for hot dogs, root beer floats and popcorn which will be served as part of the event. There are a total of eight performances that are being planned this summer.

In addition to the Tuesday performances, the Ottertail Business and Community Association will host a pair of special performances in the park this summer. Darren Quam and Friends will perform from 5-8 p.m. as part of the MS Bike Ride Event and Red Letter Band will perform from 4:30-7:30 p.m. on August 12 as part of the OtterFest celebration.
