Several local businesses will once again host the annual Miller St. block party on Friday night. Last year’s event featured a meal served at Mills Country Market by members of the East Otter Tail Dairy royalty, as well as axe throwing and live music.

For the third year in a row, Mills Country Market, Centennial Realty and Twilight Jams Entertainment is hosting a Miller Street Block Party between Mills Country Market and Centennial Realty. The event will take place from 5-8 p.m.

Latham Hetland of Twilight Jams Entertainment will be the DJ for the event and Tim and Tyler Muehler of Mills Country Market will be cooking hot dogs and burgers for party-goers. Bonnie Dykhoff of Centennial Realty will be hosting some new games this year.

“This year, I’m going to do hammerschlagen,” said Dykhoff. “It’s a German game where you have a big, round piece of wood from a trunk and you stand in a circle. We start a nail for each person and they have to take turns using the back side of the hammer hitting it in. If you miss it, you have to drink. The first one who (hits the nail in the trunk) wins.”

Dykhoff also mentioned that she will have jousting games available at the event.

“We’ll have burgers, hot dogs, root beer floats, chips,” said Tim Muehler. “The East Otter Tail Dairy Princess will be here. We’ll have some kids games, bean bag toss.”

Muehler’s nephew, Shawn McCann, will be returning to the party this year. McCann, a 3D chalk artist, created a beetle in the parking lot last year that was larger than life and it looked like it too. He was most recently at the Arbor Lakes Chalk Fest and will share his talents at the upcoming block party.

“Everything is free,” said Dykhoff. “All the food is free, the only thing is the Lions will be charging for beer.”
