Turkey lunch to be held in NYM this week

Laurine Braukmann, Cheri Tumberg, Gen Keranen and Kay Tougas helped fundraise for the Mills Dream Team last week during their plant sale in the parking lot of Mills Country Market.

The New York Mills Dream Team, Relay for Life will be hosting a turkey lunch fundraiser this Thursday, June 22 at Central Park. Serving will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The lunch will feature a turkey sandwich, chips, pickle and a water for $5. Proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society in the fight against cancer.

Laurine Braukmann shows the plant variety available at the Mills Dream Team plant sale to Tom Olson last week.

NY Mills is home to the “Mills Dream Team.” The team represents the entire NY Mills community due to the many residents who are fighting cancer. Last year the team raised over $25,000 and were the top team in East Otter Tail County. The group is hoping to surpass that total this year.

The money goes to The American Cancer Society to help fund research to find a cure for this disease. It is also used locally to provide rides to and from treatment for cancer patients without transportation and provides funds for Hope Lodge in St. Paul and Rochester Minn., a place for cancer patient’s families to stay while their loved ones are receiving treatment.

Please feel free to stop by the East Otter Tail Relay for Life event on Friday, July 14 at the Perham Track. The Opening Ceremony and Opening Lap will start at 7 p.m. Luminaries are lit at dusk, a very beautiful and moving part of the evening.
