The annual New York Mills Civic & Commerce Corn Feed will be taking place on Friday, Aug. 18 starting at 4 p.m. at the NY Mills VFW Club.

Offerings of buttered sweet corn from Buehler’s Produce of Ottertail, assorted vendors, tasty meals and drinks from the VFW kitchen, and the annual Puppet Pageant will all be available on Friday.

“It will be similar to past years,” said Latham Hetland, president of the Civic & Commerce Association. “We have some vendors, the Cultural Center will be serving root beer floats, the senior center is doing pie and ice cream, there will be a bake sale for Lucille Schik there.”

Hetland said that the past three years, the Puppet Pageant was not able to perform at the Corn Feed. In 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic shut the pageant down. In 2021, the corn feed had to end early and last year, it rained the performers out. This year he is holding out hope that the weather will be clear.

“This year it’s going to be gorgeous,” grinned Hetland optimistically.

The sweet corn is free to everyone from the community as well as the Puppet Pageant, which helps free up spending money for the various vendors, mouthwatering meals, and quenching drinks from the VFW. It’s an event that is well-attended each year and kicks off a busy summer weekend.

“Having people come together,” said Hetland. “That’s my favorite part. The corn feed has always been the Civic & Commerce’s way to give back to the community for supporting us and helping us put on all the events throughout the year. It’s jut a fun unique way for people to get together.”
