After two years of senior-laden football teams, the New York Mills Eagles will have some new faces in new positions this fall. The Eagles finished last season with a record of 8-2 overall and fell to the eventual section champion Breckenridge Cowboys in the Section 6A semi-finals.

This season the Eagles will look to replace the holes left by 12 seniors who graduated last year, including several important skill position players.

Head coach Matt Radniecki said the Eagles will likely go to a more open offense with misdirection plays to assist the Eagles early in the season. He went on to say that the team is working hard and the skill players have speed and are grasping the new offensive approach.

“We have some capable players coming back who really believe that we are going to be good,” said Radniecki. “They are confident in their ability and their teammates.”

While NY Mills lost 12 seniors, they will be returning quite a bit of experience on the field. The Eagles will be led by seniors Sam Kopveiler, Will Seim and Carter Hudalla on the line, while Teagan Lausten, DaShaun Robinson and Bode Roberts will all be used in the backfield this season. Roberts will anchor the defense as he was named as the Northwest district defensive player of the season last year.

A big highlight for the season will be a more local flavor to the schedule. The Eagles will continue playing Wadena-Deer Creek and Parkers Prairie, but will also add Staples-Motley and Pillager to their schedule.

NY Mills will open its season on the road on Thursday at Ada-Borup West. The game will start at 5 p.m.
