A Sebeka man died Friday evening, Sept. 1, in Burlington Township after fleeing from a state trooper on his motorcycle.

According to a press release from the Becker County Sheriff’s Office, Levi Edward Savela, 25, of Sebeka, was traveling south on County Highway 29 near the County Highway 54 intersection. A state trooper activated the squad car’s emergency lights and attempted to pull Savela over, but the driver failed to stop and accelerated at a high rate of speed.

The pursuit began at approximately 6:14 p.m. The trooper lost sight of the motorcycle as it continued south on County Highway 29.

After searching the area, the trooper located the motorcycle where it had left the highway on a corner approximately 1.5 miles south of the 29/54 intersection.

Savela was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Frazee Police Department, Frazee Rescue Service, Frazee Fire Department and Emergency Management Services from Essentia Health assisted the State Patrol and Becker County Sheriff’s Office.
