NYM falls to Sebeka in PRC action 3-1

The New York Mills Eagles improved to 5-7 overall and fell to 1-2 in the Park Region Conference last week. The Eagles opened the week with a thrilling 3-2 win over Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal, before falling to Breckenridge 3-0 and Sebeka 3-1.

This week the Eagles will host Pelican Rapids in non-conference action on Tuesday, before hitting the road to take on Pillager on Thursday night. 

Monday

NY Mills overcame a 2-1 deficit to pick up their fifth win of the season in five games on Monday night. The Eagles dropped the first game by a score of 25-21, before edging the Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal Titans by a score of 25-23 in the second game.

After the Titans won the third game by a score of 25-21, the Eagles fought back and won the fourth game by a score of 25-21 to force a fifth and decisive set. The Eagles controlled the tempo and action at the net as they came away with a 15-10 win to secure the 3-2 victory.

NY Mills was led offensively by a balanced scoring attack featuring Ayla Olson with 18 kills, while Alayna Baune finished with 13 kills and Grace Brasel chipped in with 11 kills. 

Hailey Korkowski and Olson each had 21 assists in the win, while Annika Dunrud had 4 ace serves. 

Tuesday

Just one day after their thrilling five game win over Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal, the Eagles fell to Breckenridge by a score of 3-0 on Tuesday night. The Cowgirls won the opening game by a score of 25-11, before securing a 24-19 in the second game and a 25-12 win in the third game to completed the sweep. 

Ayla Olson led the way offensively with 6 kills, while Hailey Korkowski finished with 9 assists and Gabi Vaden led the team with 11 digs. 

The Eagles struggled a bit from the service line as they had 7 missed serves in the three games, compared to just 12 in five games on Monday night. 

Thursday

In a game that could have just as easily went the Eagles way as the Trojans, NY Mills fell to 1-2 in the conference with a 3-1 loss to Sebeka on Thursday night. NY Mills won the first game by a score of 25-23, before falling 25-23, 25-17 and 26-24 to Sebeka to lose by a score of 3-1. 

The 1-2 punch of Alayna Baune and Ayla Olson gave the Trojans problems throughout the night as each hitter finished with 13 kills, while Annika Dunrud finished with 9 kills of her own. Hailey Korkowski led the way with 21 assists, while Olson finished with 19 assist and 17 digs. 

Belle Vaden led the way with 4 ace serves and Gabi Vaden finished with a team-high 19 digs.
