The New York Mills Public Library has a variety of offerings for both young and old to participate in this October. Preregistration for most events is highly encouraged.

Gangspil

The Danish folk music band Gangspil will be playing at the Cultural Center on Oct. 4 at 6:30 p.m. for all ears. The band has performed over 120 shows in North America since 2015. The event is being co-sponsored by the NYM Public Library and the NYM Regional Cultural Center. A free-will donation will be asked for admission.

True crime

Missy Hermes from the Otter Tail County Historical Society will be back for her presentation on “Otter Tail County: True Crime,” which will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the library. Hermes is a fan favorite and will be talking about the history of crime in the county and some of the interesting stories that go with it. She will be sharing information on some of the lawbreakers from NY Mills as well as the local crime case, the “Pig Farm Murder.”

Trivia night

A hugely popular event, Trivia Night, will be returning on Friday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. at Mills Liquors. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library, Trivia Night consists of 12 teams of four, 100 trivia questions, two energetic hosts, some fun prizes sprinkled throughout the night, but only one trivia champion team. Will you be on the next winning team? Preregister and pay the $20 team participation fee at the library to secure your spot and compete for fun, prizes, and bragging rights.

The library always hosts a large selection of used books for sale in decent condition for all ages of readers. The books are available for perusal in the meeting room while the library is open and the price is set at $1 per item. This year-round sale is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Puzzle exchange

A puzzle exchange opportunity is available for all local puzzlers where anyone can leave a family-friendly puzzle with all the of pieces intact at the library that they are finished with and in turn, take a puzzle that someone else has left them to complete.
