New York Mills School District taxpayers could see some relief in their taxes next year, at least the school portion of their taxes.

During its regularly scheduled meeting last week, the NY Mills School Board approved setting its 2024 tax levy at the maximum level, which could decrease the total district levy by 9.19 percent next year. The percentage is parcel specific for each property in the school district.

In all, the school district general fund could increase by 5.34 percent, the community service fund could decrease by 30.78 percent and the debt service levy could decrease by 16.97 percent.

The final levy will be certified in November and could be decreased from its preliminary levy, but not increased.

NY Mills Superintendent Blaine Novak said the 2024 levy, which could actually decrease next year, “is a positive thing for our school district (taxpayers).” He said a decrease in the levy is not a common thing compared to other school districts in the area, but will be a nice bonus for NY Mills School District tax payers.
