Elijah Geiser, Jerron Witt and Dawson Seelhammer race in a pack from the start of the race at the Hawley meet last week.
Maggy Weller competed with over 100 people at a cross country meet in Hawley last week.

Last Thursday afternoon the New York Mills Eagles cross country team traveled to Hawley to compete in their meet on a day that proved to be both wet and windy. A number of times they got wet as the dark clouds dropped rain and the winds increased.

Despite being cold and wet, the team ran well in a large meet that saw Hank Anderson run well in a race with over 100 other junior high boys. This was only Anderson’s second race of his career.

In the varsity boys’ race, Elijah Geiser was the first NY Mills runner to finish the race, which also had over 100 competitors, including two more Eagles, Jeron Witt and eighth grader Dawson Seelhammer. In the varsity girls’ race Katherin Garcia was the first runner from NY Mills to finish and eighth grader Maggy Weller completed the race, which also had over 100 runners competing.

Katherin Garcia was the first runner to cross the finish line at the Hawley meet last week.

Head coach Greg Esala said after the meet, “I’m proud of how our runners battled the elements throughout the meet. They all seem to be made of the ‘right stuff’!”

The Eagles have a busy week as Tuesday they travel to Brandon and Thursday they run in a big meet held in Perham.
