Halloween will cap off the month of October with some family fun, cool weather and of course, candy for everyone.

There will be three Halloween events in New York Mills this year as the festivities will be taking place in the last few days of October.

The Cultural Center will be hosting a Community Kid’s Halloween Party on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 12-3 p.m. This event is sponsored by the NY Mills Civic & Commerce.

Children ages 10 and under can enjoy free games, tricks, treats, make and take crafts, and lots of other fun at the Cultural Center. Make sure to check out the Elementary Art Gallery that is on display and the Artist’s Reception.

Older students are invited to enjoy $2 bowling games with free show rental at Mills Lanes and Lucky Strike Grill from 4-6 p.m. There will also be a $2 off large pizza special at Mills Lanes and Lucky Strike Grill as well. All children under 10 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

The Civic & Commerce will also be hosting its 12th annual Trunk or Treat event on Tuesday, Oct. 31 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the City Center parking lot this year.

This year will be the first year of the Civic & Commerce’s sponsorship over the event. Family fun and candy will abound for all ages of trick or treaters as participants are able to enjoy a safe trick or treating tradition with the community. Make sure to wear your favorite Halloween costume and a treat bucket or bag.

“It’s always fun to see the creative costumes,” said Julie Roberts, organizer of the event this year. “The excitement that kids have about their costumes and to see the family themed costumes.”

Roberts has been involved in the event for six years and has seen an average turnout of 400-500 kids per year at the event.

“It provides a safe family event for the spooky holiday,” Roberts explained why she got involved in the event.

NY Mills Trinity Lutheran Youth will be offering a kid-friendly free will donation supper and all the proceeds will go toward their National Youth Gathering Trip.

Ottertail will also be hosting a trunk or treat event for the community on Tuesday night. The Ottertail Trunk or Treat is being sponsored by the Ottertail Lions Club and will be held at the Ottertail Community Center from 5-7 p.m.

The event will feature 10, $50 cash prizes for the best decorated trunks, as voted on by the trick or treaters, as well as pumpkin decorating in the community center. The first 100 trick or treaters will get to take home a cookie decorating kit.
