Four Eagles finish a perfect 5-0 in tournament

The New York Mills Eagles wrapped up a successful opening week of the season with five wins at the Hillsboro Duals. The Eagles finished the tournament with a 5-0 record, including a 36-31 win over West Fargo.

In the opening round of the tournament the Eagles cruised to a 58-18 win over Crookston. The Eagles secured four pins by Creed Mursu, Weston Simpson, Grady Roberts and Aiden Meech and took advantage of five Crookston forfeits in the win.

The Eagles secured another lopsided win over Pembina County North in the first round of wrestling by a score of 57-18. 

Meech got the match going with a quick pin at 114 lbs. when he secured a pin in just 22 seconds. Following a Carlyle Tumberg 6-4 decision at 121 lbs., Isaac Geiser secured a pin at the 3:25 mark of his 127 lbs. match. 

Pembina County secured back-to-back pins at 133 and 139 lbs., but would get no closer in the match as the Eagles won each match from 145 lbs. through 285 lbs. by either pin or forfeit to blow past Pembina County North. Securing pins during that stretch were Austin Geiser at 160 lbs., Joe Mann at 172 lbs., Blake Unger at 189 lbs., Bode Roberts at 215 lbs. and Grady Roberts at 285 lbs. 

NY Mills kept their winning ways going in the second round as they defeated LaMoure-Litchville/Marion by a score of 42-33. 

The Eagles wasted little time in getting the match going as Simpson, Elijah Geiser and Austin Geiser each secured a pin, with Elijah and Austin needing a combined 45 seconds to secure their pins. 

After LLM came away with back-to-back pins at 172 and 189 lbs., Bode Roberts got the Eagles back in the win column when he secured a pin in just 38 seconds at 215 lbs., and Grady Roberts was able to get a pin at 285 lbs. in 37 seconds to keep the Eagles in front. 

After LLM secured a pin at 107 lbs., Meech got another first period pin for the Eagles when he picked up a pin at 114 lbs. in just 48 seconds. 

Mursu picked up the final Eagle pin of the match when he secured a pin at 133 lbs. at the 5:21 mark of his match. 

The Eagles followed their win over LLM with an impressive 63-12 win over May-Port-CG. The Eagles dropped just two matches in the dual, one of which was a forfeit, while picking up eight pins and a pair of forfeits.

Securing pins for the Eagles were Austin Geiser, Mann, Unger, Bode Roberts, Meech, Tumberg, Isaac Geiser and Mursu. 

In their third match of the second round the Eagles defeated the West Fargo Packers by a score of 36-31. 

In what proved to be a back-and-forth match for the opening four weights of the match, the Eagles blew past the Packers with a pair of decisions at 160 lbs. and 172 lbs, before picking up a pair of pins.

Austin Geiser secured an 8-6 win at 160 lbs., before Joe Mann secured a close 8-6 decision at 172 lbs.

Unger secured an important pin at 189 lbs. at the 1:47 mark of his match, before Bode Roberts secured a pin at the 5:37 mark of his 215 lbs. match to give the Eagles a 30-10 lead. The Packers went on a bit of a run in the lighter weights, but Meech secured a pin at 114 lbs. to secured the win for the Eagles. 

Also securing pins for the Eagles in the match was Mursu at 133 lbs. and Simpson at 145 lbs. 

Finishing with a perfect 5-0 was Simpson, Austin Geiser, Bode Roberts and Meech.
