Eagles edge Hornets 55-46 in PRC action

The New York Mills Eagles improved to 4-6 overall and 2-2 in the Park Region Conference with an important win over Henning. The Eagles defeated the Hornets, who are also in the same sub section, by a score of 55-46 on Friday night.

This week the Eagles will host Bertha-Hewitt in their only game of the game. 

December 28

NY Mills picked up its second straight win and advanced to the championship game of the Pelican Rapids Tournament on Thursday, Dec. 28 with a 59-50 win over Badger/Greenbush-Middle River. The Eagles were led offensively by Ayla Olson who had a tremendous game from the floor as she scored over half of NY Mills’ points and finished with 30 points to go along with 17 rebounds. Olson had a big first half as she scored 19 of her game-high 30 points. In the second half she made the most of her trips to the free throw line as she finished the game going 11-15 from the charity stripe.

The Eagles led at halftime by a score of 29-25, before holding on for the 59-50 win.

In addition to Olson, Alayna Baune reached double figures in scoring as she finished with 11 points and 8 rebounds, while Annika Dunrud scored 9 points to go along with 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Rosemary Laudenbach scored 5 points and Katherin Garcia rounded out the scoring with 4 points. 

December 29

Ayla Olson had a huge game from the floor as the junior post player scored 20 points and pulled down 19 rebounds as the NY Mills Eagles fell to Pelican Rapids in the championship game of the Pelican Rapids Tournament on December 29. Olson had 12 offensive rebounds alone as she also went an impressive 11-14 from the free throw line.

The Eagles trailed the Vikings by a score of 32-23 at halftime, but were able to keep pace with Pelican Rapids in the second half as they were outscored just 30-25 in the final 18 minutes of action.

In addition to Olson, Annika Dunrud also recorded a double-double as she finished with 13 points to go along with 10 rebounds and 3 assists. Alayna Baune also reached double figures as she scored 11 points and pulled down 3 rebounds in the loss. 

Rosemary Laudenbach rounded out the scoring with 3 points for the Eagles. 

Friday

NY Mills improved to 2-2 in the conference and 4-6 overall with a 55-46 win over Henning on Friday night. In a game that was close for much of the first half went the Eagles way for much of the final 18 minutes of action on Friday. NY Mills held a slight 29-28 lead at halftime, but held the Hornets to just 18 points in the second half. In fact, just three Henning people scored and two players accounted for 44 of the teams 46 total points.

The Eagles shot nearly 40 percent from the field and hit six 3-pointers in the win. They also held a big 45-27 advantage in rebounds, including a 16-6 advantage on the offensive end of the court. NY Mills also finished with 7 team blocks, including 4 by Ayla Olson alone. 

Olson led the way offensively with 13 points and 25 rebounds, which was just 2 rebounds less than the entire Henning team. She finished with 11 offensive rebounds and also finished with 5 assists.

Annika Dunrud finished with 10 points and 6 rebounds, while Alayna Baune finished with 9 points, Gabi Vaden scored 8 points to go along with 4 rebounds, Violet Radniecki scored 3 points, Grace Brasel scored 2 points and Katherin Garcia rounded out the scoring with 1 point.
